When I started Rebooted Body back in 2013, I had one child. A very young child.
Now I have three.
Know what that means? Everywhere we go people are basically just throwing treats at them.
It feels like my oldest daughter gets invited to a birthday party with cake and treats at least twice a week.
Any time you take a child somewhere to do something fun, junk food is a step away (and usually at their eye/hand level).
It’s really challenging.
In the future, we might get to the point where there are places you go with your children where the whole family goes into a cubicle and just mainlines pure sugar water together.
I also know, because of the clients that I work with, that the office isn’t much better.
There’s candy on everyone’s desk. Vending machines full of crap. And there always seems to be some random celebratory event on Fridays that requires lots of junk food.
Am I right?
After a while, it starts to feel like the only way to be consistent and successful in this world is to be “temptation-proof.”
That’s not reality, though.
There’s nothing wrong with having these foods sometimes. The problem is when sometimes turns into all the time (which is a super easy trap to fall into).
Rather than being temptation-proof, which has a negative connotation and smacks of talk about willpowerz and disciplinz, I prefer to use the term “trigger-proof.”
Trigger-proof means choosing these foods sometimes without being triggered to choose them all the time. And without being triggered to engage in other destructive behavior patterns (e.g. binge patterns) and thought patterns (e.g. shame, guilt, regret, etc.).
It means being in control of your choices. It means being consistent.
Being trigger-proof unlocks your ability to have a body and life you love because it means you can finally achieve the moderation and balance required to reach your body composition goals.
The question is…can anyone become trigger-proof?
